About Dr. David
I'm Dr. David, a parent of five amazing neurodivergent teens and a special education teacher and leader. My personal journey, combined with my doctoral degree in education and certifications in trauma-informed practice and ADHD education, fuels my passion for empowering parents and teachers like you.
I've spent 30 years as a teacher, educational leader, and counselor, and I'm dedicated to helping you create the thriving family and classroom you desire and deserve.
My journey into parent and teacher coaching/consulting began at home amidst the beautiful chaos of raising five ADHD+ exceptionally wired teens alongside my incredible wife. I vividly remember the early days – the whirlwind of emotions, the countless doctor and therapy appointments, and the constant search for strategies that actually worked. There were tears, frustrations, and a deep yearning for a different way.
Over time, amidst the homework struggles, sensory meltdowns, and the juggling act of busy schedules, I realized something profound. Focusing solely on the challenges wasn't serving us. We needed to shift our perspective and recognize the incredible strengths and resilience within our family.
My First Year Teaching, 1995
The same rang true in my high school science classes and as a K-12 LEarning Needs Specialist at a large private school. Starting out in education, I blamed students and parents for poor academic performance instead of examining my beliefs and approaches to education. When the connection between my experience at home began to transform my classroom, I worked hard to ensure all students were given the opportunity to succeed by considering their strengths and struggles. I quickly became a sought-after coach with teachers and administrators, setting me up for further success at The Inclusion Matters Collective.
Through it all, I've discovered the power of strengths-based, neurodivergent-affirming coaching. Through extensive research and professional development, including earning my doctorate in education and certifications in trauma-informed practice and ADHD education, I developed the Thriving Resilience Treehouse Model and my six-step coaching blueprint. These frameworks are the foundation of my work, guiding families and classrooms like yours toward creating a space filled with understanding, empathy, trust, and genuine connection.
